David Conway Photography

I'm a West Yorkshire wedding photographer who's won awards. My name is David Conway. I've been a wedding photographer for over 15 years, and I capture both documentary-style images of the day and stunning, contemporary images of the couple. I minimise the number of times I tell people where to stand or how to pose themselves because my style is generally natural and unposed. As a result, the wedding photos are natural and relaxed.I've won several prestigious awards from the Guild of Photographers for my work as a wedding photographer.

History of Ripley Castle

Our historical narrative forms a rich tapestry interwoven with political, military, religious, and social upheavals, featuring tales of plague, persecution, renaissance, enlightenment, and the industrial revolution. This captivating saga encompasses romance, courage, loyalty, and recklessness, with our story persisting without a final chapter, as we remain immersed in this ongoing adventure.

In this intricate narrative, Henry Ingilby played a key role in financing Windsor Castle during Edward III's reign, while his brother Thomas earned knighthood for saving the king's life. Sir William, serving during the darkest days of Henry VIII, Mary Tudor, and Elizabeth I, had sons who inspired rebellion, earning the label of 'the most dangerous papists in the North of England.' The Blessed Francis Ingilby paid the ultimate price with his execution in 1586.

In 1603, James I stayed at the castle, and by 1605, the Ingilbys were entangled in a plot to assassinate him, with nine of the Gunpowder Plot conspirators having close ties to the family. 'Trooper' Jane Ingilby later held Oliver Cromwell captive after the Battle of Marston Moor.Sir John Ingilby, facing personal tragedy, rebuilt the castle, and his eccentric son reconstructed Ripley, endowing it with a grand Hotel de Ville, adding yet another intriguing chapter to our enduring history.

In 2009, the Ingilby family celebrated an astounding 700 years at Ripley Castle. The family's ability to occupy the same house for seven centuries stands as a truly remarkable feat. Letters, deeds, and documents spanning generations provide a unique record of the family's history, documenting births, marriages, deaths, trials, tribulations, and their resilience through plagues, civil wars, regicidal attempts, conspiracies, broken marriages, inept heirs, and periods of dire economic hardship.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to some common questions below. Alternatively, you can contact David directly either by chat, phone or video. (This is often the quickest way to get the information you need.)

What area do you cover?

I am based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, which gives me access to Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and large areas of Yorkshire.  As a rule, I am happy to travel up to 60 miles to cover a wedding. Any further than this I charge a fee to cover travel costs.

How many photos will I get from our wedding photography?

Every wedding is different and the number of images you receive can be a reflection of what moments are there to be captured.  On a normal wedding day I usually deliver between 600-800 images to your online gallery.

How long will it be before I receive my wedding gallery?

I know how keen my couples are to see and share some images from their wedding day, so with this in mind I always like to provide a selection of teaser shots a day or two after the wedding day.  This would usually be around 20-30 images.  I then aim to deliver the full collection of images on an online gallery within 6-8 weeks.

Can I share my images and buy prints and wall art?

From the online gallery my coupes will have access to the full selection of wedding images, but they will be subtly watermarked.  From the gallery you would be able to order any prints or wall art directly through my professional printing service. You would be able to share the gallery to any friends and family, and they too, would be able to order any prints they may like as well.  If you wanted the full collection of high resolution images to share and keep, my couples do have the option of ordering a USB.  See more on my packages page here.

How long have you been Photographing Weddings?

Having been photographing weddings for the best part of 13 years, I am a highly experienced photographer.  I have been lucky to work at some of the countries premium wedding venues and have one many awards, including the prestigious Guild Of Photographers Wedding Photographer of the Year for 2021.

Are you fully Insured?

Yes, I have insurance for all my equipment as well as £2M public liability insurance.  I also have Drone insurance as well as the necessary drone qualifications to be legal and safe when flying at a wedding.

Will we have to pay extra for Drone Photos?

No.  I see my drone as an essential piece of equipment on a wedding day, and so long as the weather allows it and it is safe to do so, I will use it on your wedding day to capture shots of the venue, your guests and it allows me to get creative when getting shots of my couples too.

How do I book in for a chat about my wedding?

Get in touch using my contact page here and we can arrange a chat, either in person at my home in Brockholes, Holmfirth, or we can arrange a Zoom call.
